The Art of Manliness does it again

It's a really good thing that The Art of Manliness has a bigger readership, particularly male, than we do. That way I know that quite a few men saw the latest post by these fine gentlemen - Road Map to the Perfect First Date.

Yes, please. I would love a first date like that. It's cool, collected, respectful, but not over the top, everything a first date should be.

Unfortunately, in today's dating world, too many woman might not appreciate that kind of chivalry, finding it outdated and absurd. Still, let it be known that are women who would.

I am one of them.

Very nice.
Funny to read the men dissing the article though... though I will say all those steps won't get you the girl - but they sure won't hurt!! The man still has to be worthwhile.

I strongly second the 'tell your date what you have planned for the evening.' Will we be inside or will I need a jacket? or the one that really chaps me - I'm wearing cute shoes and now you want to walk in the park?
Argh. I once met an online date - we planned to meet at a local watering hole so I pulled out my awesome new high heeled boots to wear with a great pair of jeans. On the way to meet me he changed his mind and wanted to walk around the park... on a concrete/ aggregate path. My heels were completely chewed up by the end of the evening. Grrr.

and ps... guys hate it when we say we aren't wearing shoes to walk in. But do they bother to notice that it may be the case? My heels are going to sink into grass - or be damaged by gravel.
If you want to run in the park - let me put on sneakers!!!

In addition to the shoe thing, I'd like to know if I should eat or not!

Two examples:

We were meeting at a bookstore straight from work, so I definitely hadn't eaten. I get there and we have the "What do you want to do?"/"I don't know. What do you want to do?" conversation, wherein I strongly suggested the Macaroni Grill in the same complex. Instead, we went to get coffee (tea for me) and saw a movie. I was quite hungry by the time I got home.

Another time we had that same conversation the whole day leading up to the date. Then he was suddenly going to the local football game so we were going to go out after, so I ate! And I certainly wasn't expecting for him to pick me up at 9 PM and then say "We're going to eat" and I could only pick at a salad so I didn't look dumb.

Simple rule, whoever asks plans. You don't have to give away the whole plan if you want, just enough that I know what I need to do or wear. Thank you.
